ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, “Senator Feinstein is wrong. The bill, introduced by Senators Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Bob Menendez (D-NJ), which now has the support of 59 senators, does notrequire U.S. military support for Israel in the event of hostilities. That is merely in the bill’s preamble.
“TheBill’s preamblestates, asa matter of the sense of Congress, not as a matter of law, that the U.S. should support Israel if ‘the Government of Israel is compelled to take military action in legitimate self-defense against Iran’s nuclear weapon program, the United States Government should stand with Israel and provide, in accordance with the law of the United States and the constitutional responsibility of Congress to authorize the use of military force, diplomatic, military, and economic support to the Government of Israel in its defense of its territory, people, and existence.’
“Given that fact, Senator Feinstein’s remark is offensive and astonishing –– and wrong. Her statement plays to the anti-Semitic stereotype that the Jewish lobby manipulates America into doing Israel’s bidding to the detriment of U.S. interests.

An Israeli flag has been added to the line of flags fluttering outside the CERN Globe of Science and Innovation in Geneva, following Israel’s official welcoming as the 21st member state of the European Organization for Nuclear Research.
Israel is the first new member of the organization since 1999. Israel has been an observer at CERN since 1991.
